Getting Started

For Students

  1. Sign in using Microsoft Teams SSO or create an account
  2. Browse or create word lists in the "Select Words" section
  3. Click "Quick Start" to begin a vocabulary game
  4. Track your progress in the "Track Progress" tab
  5. Use the Word Log to save definitions and sentences
  6. Earn badges and compete on leaderboards

For Teachers

  1. Sign in and set up your profile with your school name
  2. Create custom word lists for your curriculum
  3. Monitor student progress via the Teacher Dashboard
  4. Filter by school and class to view specific groups
  5. Review student word logs and validate entries
  6. Track engagement through leaderboards and analytics

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign in?

If you're using the app in Microsoft Teams, you'll be automatically signed in with your Teams account. If you're using the web version, you can sign in with your Microsoft account or create a new account with your email address.

Can I use the app without signing in?

Yes! Guest mode allows you to browse word lists and play games. However, to save your progress, track statistics, access the Word Log, and appear on leaderboards, you'll need to create an account or sign in.

How do I create a word list?

Go to Settings → Manage Word Lists → Create New List. Enter a name for your list and add words (one per line). You can also browse and select from existing word lists in the "Select Words" section.

What is the Word Log?

The Word Log is your personal vocabulary journal where you save words with definitions and example sentences. Our AI validates your entries to ensure they're accurate. You can also use Learning Helpers like emoji stories and word origins to make learning more engaging.

How do leaderboards work?

Leaderboards show top performers based on word counts. If you've set a school name in your profile, you'll appear on your school's leaderboard. Community leaderboards show all users. You can remove yourself from school leaderboards by removing your school name in Settings → Account Details.

Is my data safe?

Yes. We use industry-standard security including HTTPS encryption, secure authentication, and encrypted database storage. We never sell your data. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Is the app free?

Yes, Vocabulary Builder is completely free for students, teachers, and schools.

What devices does it work on?

Vocabulary Builder works on any device with a web browser - desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. It's fully responsive and optimized for Microsoft Teams on all platforms.

Can I use it offline?

The app requires an internet connection to fetch word definitions and sync your progress.

What should I do if I encounter objectionable AI-generated content?

We take content moderation seriously. If you come across any objectionable AI-generated content in the app, please report it immediately:

  • Email us at support@ashishgupta.co.uk with the details
  • Include a description of the content and when you encountered it
  • If possible, provide a screenshot or copy of the content
  • We will review and take timely action on all reported concerns

Content Filtering: Our AI functionality includes filtering mechanisms designed to prevent misuse and access to objectionable content. The app is focused on supporting vocabulary learning and will guide users back to its intended educational purpose.

Troubleshooting

The app won't load or is showing errors

  • Check your internet connection
  • Refresh the page
  • Clear your browser cache and cookies
  • If using Teams, try reopening the app tab

I can't sign in

  • If using Teams SSO, ensure you're signed into Teams
  • Try clearing cookies and signing in again
  • Contact support if you continue to have issues

My progress isn't saving

  • Make sure you're signed in (not in guest mode)
  • Check your internet connection
  • Wait a few seconds after completing an action for it to sync
  • Don't close the browser immediately after playing

Word definitions aren't loading

  • Check your internet connection
  • Wait a few seconds - generation can take 2-5 seconds
  • Try refreshing the page
  • If the issue persists, our AI service may be temporarily unavailable

I'm getting rate limit errors

We have rate limits to ensure fair usage and prevent abuse:

  • Word definitions: 30 requests per minute
  • Word Log entries: 10 entries per minute
  • If you hit a limit, wait a minute before trying again
